VITAMIN B - THE FACTS

IF YOU'RE FEELING STRESSED, VITAMIN B COULD BE THE ANSWER

One highly underrated B vitamin is known as choline and it really needs a much higher centre stage profile as it’s on your side in the battle to keep a cool head and helps to eliminate stress.

We’re being told more or less daily how important our diet is, so one good way to ensure your body is getting what it needs to stay healthy is to avoid getting hungry and then start snacking on fast foods and junk.

To keep one step ahead try and plan in advance to ensure you always have something healthy, nutritious and delicious on standby.

Good sources of B vitamin choline are:
Eggs
Chicken
Flax seed
Spinach
Oats
Bananas
Lentils
Nuts

Eggs are a major provider.  It’s common for athletes to use only the white of the egg due to a concentrated protein hit to be found in there, but you need to eat the yolk too to benefit from choline as it’s not present in just the white.

So what else do we know about this B vitamin?

More and more research is coming to light which links choline with brain health.  In fact those with high levels were proved less susceptible to Alzheimer’s Disease.  Also those presenting with a good amount present were shown to be less susceptible to stress in general as the choline changes mood altering chemicals.  This may be because it exists naturally in the membrane which surrounds all body cells including brain cells and has a link with memory and cognitive function.

Other B vitamins are also beneficial, including B12 and deficiency of this vitamin group can impact negatively on our nervous systems and brain function.  Vegetarians and vegans should take a supplement as vitamin B12 is only present in meat protein and it is one of our body’s vital requirements.  As for those lacking in B vitamins the effects can be far reaching.  In the severest cases slow cognitive function and memory failure can result.

It’s good to know that we can attain these B vitamins simply as part of a normal natural diet.  In fact eggs are relatively cheap, quick and easy to prepare and extremely versatile.  Maybe that’s why they told us to:
